Growing Potatoes: Irish & Sweet

LIBERTY, NY— Gardeners and potato lovers can learn how to grow Irish and Sweet Potatoes by joining Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Sullivan County Master Gardener program in a step-by-step process for success in growing sweet potatoes in the Catskill/Pocono region on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Gerald J. Skoda Extension Education Center in Liberty.

Penn State Master Gardener Dave Nonnenmacher from Honesdale will guide participants on topics including soil preparation, varietal selection, planting, moisture requirements, space, heat supplementation, pest and weed control, harvesting, curing, and storage. Nonnemacher will hold a brief discussion on some of the difficulties encountered in growing the Irish potato, especially pest control and development of scab.

A fee of $10 must accompany pre-registration. Refunds will not be issued. Registration can be made by calling CCE at 845-292-6180. Light refreshments will be served.
